The Global Head of Career and Transitions reports to the Global Director of Talent and is an integral part of the Talent, Leadership & Learning Team (CoE). Our globally integrated team operates within a matrix organisation spanning five regions, our other global functions, and over 30 countries to deliver integrated talent and learning initiatives that empower and inspire our members.

The Opportunity

The primary focus of this role is to define strategies that transform the approach to career development for our members, empowering members to take ownership of their development, build coaching capability, and strengthen the quality of leadership transitions for the firm.

The critical objective is to collaborate with Region People Leaders, People Partners and key business stakeholders to lead the shift of Arup’s culture to one of greater trust, transparency, and continuous feedback that will in turn lead to a positive member experience, greater retention, and enhanced business performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and evolve the Leadership Transitions Framework to guarantee seamless transitions for termed appointments, enhancing the onboarding and offboarding experiences for leaders, to drive mutual benefit for the leader and the firm.
  • Collaborate with Head of Leadership Learning, Arup University and business leaders to create and communicate clear career pathways and advancement opportunities for Arup members.
  • Work closely with Leadership Learning Programme Managers to influence and implement learning strategies that foster self-development and a coaching and feedback culture.
  • Define and integrate leadership assessment and 360 tools for development, working across Centres of Expertise to integrate into leadership learning, performance, promotion and recruitment processes.
  • Develop and implement mechanisms to build internal coaching capability and networks both within the people team and wider business.
  • Establish measures of success and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess progress around the member experience and the effectiveness of implemented tools, methodologies and frameworks.

Is this role right for you?

A successful candidate for this role will have the following key skills, experience and attributes:

  • Subject matter expertise of developing career and performance management frameworks, best practices, and current trends.
  • Experience in developing tools and strategies to enhance a performance culture.
  • Experience and/or knowledge across multiple HR or organisational disciplines, understanding interdependencies, and driving integrated talent solutions.
  • Experience of designing and implementing successful coaching, mentoring, and leadership development programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of performance management systems to enhance overall business performance, understanding interdependencies, and driving integrated talent solutions.
  • Strong track record of driving collaboration to achieve objectives and able to present information and support decision-making through effective data analysis, presentation, and storytelling.
  • Leverage data analytics to inform and influence key decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Organizational Development, Psychology, or related field; Advanced degree a plus.
  • Extensive experience in HR, People partnering, Talent management, organizational development or related role.
  • HR or related professional qualification preferred.
